Although some cowboys start riding horses at a very young age, no one is born on a horse so everyone needs some horse riding lessons if they want to get on a horse and move around. Horse riding lessons usually start with preparing the horse for the ride. Most people have some kind of a saddle although there are people who ride bareback. Each rider needs to have a bridle to control the path of the horse so an instructor will probably begin with putting the bridle on the horse. Other people have to start from the beginning and take some time to make sure that they can control the giant animal. The horse riding lessons will often start with learning the proper balance to avoid falling off the horse as it moves along. Once there is some practice on balance, the horse riding lessons will concentrate on guiding the horse so the horse goes where the rider wants to go rather than the rider going where the horse wants to go.

The horse riding lessons provided by an expert instructor will include techniques for using the reins and the bridle to guide the horse in the proper direction. These instructions will concentrate on the proper tension that should be used in various situations. The instructor will also show the student how to use the legs and the heels of the foot to guide the horse and indicate how fast the pace should be at any given time. A good instructor should have the students on their way to riding on their own in a very short time frame.
